Sweet Springs Public Library

Library Mission & History

The mission and history of Sweet Springs Public Library.

The library has had a strong presence in the community of Sweet Springs for many years.  It started in 1939 when the Yankee sisters opened a library in their dress shop. As more books were added, a larger building was needed. After outgrowing two more buildings through the years, the current structure was built in 1998.  The library continues to grow as more services and technology are added.

The library's mission is to foster literacy and the enjoyment of literature of all types of people of all ages living in the community.  The strategy will be to improve, enhance, and extend public library services to local citizens.  The library's aim is to be a preschooler's door to learning as well as to serve the needs of elementary and secondary students and adults.
